Duke Symphony Orchestra

Benefit Concert

Sea Island Presbyterian Church

The Foundation for Leadership Education proudly hosted the time honored tradition of bringing the Duke Symphony Orchestra to Beaufort for a benefit concert weekend after a five year hiatus due to Covid restrictions. The concert performance was held on Saturday, April 13th in the beautiful Sanctuary of Sea Island Presbyterian Church. Conductor Harry Davidson is in his twenty-fifth season as Music Director and Conductor of the Duke Symphony Orchestra and Professor of the Practice of Music at Duke University. Conductor Davidson led these talented student musicians and the concert patrons on a musical journey throughout the evening opening with Hungarian Dance No. 1 in G Minor (Johannes Brahms) and closing with Symphony No. 8 in G Major (Antonin Dvorak) which featured a breathtaking performance by Student Concerto Competition Winner, pianist Claire Li. The audience was captivated and showed their appreciation with a warm round of applause and standing ovation at the concert's conclusion. We look forward to honoring this special DSO tradition in years to come.

Our Premier Pass patrons and sponsors were able to enjoy cocktails and conversation with Conductor Harry Davidson and meet the talented musicians of the Duke Symphony Orchestra at the Conductor's Reception which was held immediately following the concert at the beautiful waterfront home of Ron and Elizabeth Garrett on Burckmyer Beach. The Kitchen provided delicious hors d'oeuvres and the spirits were generously donated by Frank's Spirits and Wines. The students of the Duke Symphony Orchestra had a wonderful time in Beaufort and enjoyed spending the weekend with their host families who graciously opened their homes to provide lodging, meals and hospitality. The Foundation for Leadership Education greatly appreciates the support of our concert sponsors, host families, volunteers and our DSO Committee Chair, Denise Creech who all helped make this special weekend a success.
