THE Foundation for Leadership Education

Our Mission

The Foundation for Leadership Education’s (FLE) primary objectives are to develop and promote an educational curriculum, which can be adopted by all schools in Beaufort County, that will provide a foundation in values and skills from which students are empowered to lead themselves and others in a way that creates positive change. FLE also proudly maintains the Lowcountry Lifetime Achievement Awards program and the Lighthouse Scholarship award.

BACKGROUND

The FLE was founded by local leaders of Beaufort County that represented business, community development, education, management, and the military.  Armed with a vision to help “Prepare Tomorrow’s Leaders,” the group committed itself to supporting programs with an unwavering commitment to developing well-rounded, open-minded critical thinkers preparing to be the problem-solvers of the future. In addition, the founders were dedicated to honoring the history of leadership in the Lowcountry by recognizing individuals and organizations that have contributed to the general welfare and development of the community.

PROGRAM SUPPORT

As a result, the foundation is committed to partnering and funding the following project types:

  • Lighthouse Scholarship Fund: Academic scholarships for students entering college that have demonstrated strong leadership skills as demonstrated in high school through academics, community involvement, leadership activities, positive character and/or extra-curricular activities. Honorees must be enrolled at an accredited educational institution.

  • Maxwell Foundation’s iLead Program: Partnering with local schools in Beaufort county to implement the iLead youth leadership development programming which is a student led curriculum providing a foundation of values from which students are empowered to lead themselves and others in a way that can lead to powerful positive change.

  • The Lowcountry Lifetime Achievement Awards. These awards are presented annually in January to honor individuals that have contributed to the general welfare and development of the Lowcountry community. Awardees are vetted and selected by an alumni nominating committee comprised of previously honored awardees. These selections are based on the following criteria:

    • Community Service

    • Community Pioneering and Innovative Efforts
